Loved it and the Belmont series. Each book stands on it's own, but does reference the previous characters. This is my second time reading and I literally couldn't put it down. I particularly enjoyed this story as the main character, Eleanor, finds her joy in cooking and serving food to widows and orphans who have been beaten down by the end of the civil war. Eleanor not only has to fight the cultural prejudice at the time to perform such a charity, but actually fight within her family to be "allowed" to lower herself to serve others. A good reminder of how far society has come.
