My first James Patterson book was disappointing. The chapters were choppy, the characters under-developed, the plot was farfetched, and the voice on this audio cd for the character Chloe really got on my nerves. There were many 2 page chapters, which made the book feel like it was jumping everywhere without much substance. I found the main character arrogant and too much of an alpha male. His personality didn't go with the intelligent scientist type. His wife Chloe was this highly educated, intellectual woman, yet she played the stay at home wife with nothing to offer when it came time for her "man" to save the world. Her character was supposed to be french but she was narrated with a German accent (What is zis over zere), it drove me crazy. This was supposed to be science fiction yet the issue and resolution were so farfetched and wacky that it was roll your eyes unbelievable. Every second or third chapter there was a character created solely to be mauled and eaten by an animal. It was gory and descriptive but lacked on suspense since the pattern was predictable (Jackson being arrogant smart scientist, unknown character gets eaten, Jackson being an arrogant smart scientist and so on).
