I began reading this series without any great expectations - I've read the Partials series, and so far, that's quite good, but it's nowhere near the same level as the John Cleaver books. Cleaver is a captivating character, and it doesn't take long to get really attached to him. I've read reviews that compared these books to Jeff Lindsay's Dexter series, but the feel is really different. Yes, both are told in first-person narration by a lovable sociopath, but where Dexter is an adult, well-established serial killer who sails through life enjoying the ride, Cleaver is young and still figuring out what he wants to do with his life. It's been great fun tagging along while he sorts it all out. I really wish there were more of these books, but as far as I know, the series was planned as a trilogy, and no more are in the works. Edit August 2014 - Just found out Wells is doing another Cleaver trilogy. Squeeeee! Edit September 2014 - The new John Cleaver novella is out, and the library has it on order! Can't wait!
