I'm gonna try and write about this film without mentioning Walter Mitty. Oops... The pointedly lackluster sets and grim West Yorkshire shooting locations that are somber in the extreme illustrate plainly the confines of a dull, drab life that fuels Billy’s dreams of alternatives. There's superb acting by all (Gwendolyn Watts I'm looking at you!) and the few scenes with Christie and Courtenay together are positively electric. Christie has the definitive line: "It's this town... I don't like knowing everybody, I don't like being a part of everything. What I want to be is invisible. I want to be able to move around without having to explain anything."
