I watched this movie last night, and oh man, does it get you fired up. Honestly, I feel as if I am still processing everything I watched. As the title suggests, Cassie is a promising young woman in medical school until an event involving her best friend derails her plan. Cassie begins leading a double life as she seeks revenge for her friend. I will say this movie deals heavily with sexual assault, so please be warned if that is triggering for you. I would say this movie is best described as a thriller focusing on relevant issues. The film does an excellent job of highlighting the many different excuses and reasonings used by perpetrators, which again shines so much light on the issues of sexual assault we see in our communities. Give this one a watch and let me know your thoughts because I have a lot of them!

Wow. Excellent film. Kids heading off to college could learn something about unacceptable behavior. It's tough subject matter but I will watch it with my 19 yo daughter and if had a son that age, I'd watch it with him too. Again, it's a subject that takes some maturity to handle and may not be right for everyone, but there is a lesson here that is worth the uncomfortable discussions that may well follow, especially for that age group.

Pretty poor effort- lame script full of half-baked ideas and dialogue. I'm not sure why I've been seeing such good reviews- I guess there is no accounting for taste.

A movie with great acting, based on the saddened situations that are existing in today's world, for young women (teenagers and adults) enjoyable sense of revenge. This movie was completely bizarre as it had so many twists and turns. The film had me wondering where it was going the whole time and the ending really surprised me. Overall a really good film with a spot on performance by Cary Mulligan.

I had to wait quite awhile to borrow a copy of this movie. Totally worth it. And Whoa, Nelly--did not see that ending coming. At all.

"Promising Young Woman" is a compelling, wrenching, gut-punch of a movie. It's also darkly funny, featuring a career-best performance by the talented British actress Carey Mulligan. She is Cassie, a medical school dropout nearing 30 who lives with her parents and works in a coffee shop. Cassie is deeply traumatized by an event the movie takes its time revealing; as it opens she is well into her weirdly creative quest for revenge, one duplicitous creep (as well as a couple of women who should have known better) at a time.

As I say, I did not see the shocker ending coming--the enduring question is whether or not Cassie did.

I plan to see "Promising Young Woman" again but, um... not right away. (But next time maybe I'll enable writer-director Emerald Fennell's commentary track, to get her take on the unfolding events.)

Recommended.

A disturbing thriller that looks at rape culture and the complicit behaviour of both sexes. It kept me on the edge of my seat, but it does not conform to the conventions of modern revenge films as the trailer suggests. Hard to watch at times, it lays out what we have unfortunately normalized in today's society (see documentary: Audrie and Daisy).

Carey Mulligan is exceptionally brilliant and delicious in this revenge tale where she takes on several persona's each night to teach men who use women as luggage: Pick up. Rape. Drop off. She's known men like this since college and the extent of the damage they can do and now it's time to do something about it but when an old college classmate drops by her coffee shop bringing back more than just memories of the past, will she get more than she bargained for?

Perhaps the quotes below are too familiar and left out in IMDb:

Okay, I-I'm not the only one who didn't believe it. If-if you have a reputation for sleeping around, then maybe people aren't gonna believe you when you say something's happened.
===
And those choices, those mistakes, can be so damaging and really regrettable.
- Regrettable?
Yes. I mean, because what would you have me do? Ruin a young man's life every time we get an accusation like this?
===
Can you guess what every woman's worst nightmare is? The thing is you thought you'd gotten away with it because everyone had forgotten.

So, you're perfect, right? You've never done anything you're ashamed of?

Poor Ryan, just an innocent bystander.
