I was upset because this was a film exploiting the current money making theme that slavery in Louisiana is still happening and white supremacists are everywhere. The story is full of holes and nonsensical and the writer said he got the idea in a DREAM. It is taking advantage of the current WOKE movement. The writers are proud of their clever movie they say, but it is just full of gimmicks that are illogical to absurd. She gets into a Uber car without looking. Somehow her stalker can get into every room effortless. The stalker knows where she is all the time. They act like there is a slavery operation in Louisiana, just miles from tourists. Slaves picking cotton on no larger than 1 acre lot, captors that have no other job or source of income. Act like she can't walk away anytime and walk a couple miles to freedom. they set up a Holocaust type burn shed where they kill slaves for no reason---total stupid movie. I am sure half the people that watch this movie will actually believe that this is happening in Louisiana == I have relatives there==there is move love there than in the Northern states. This movie has no redeeming value than to stir up hate and distrust of fellow human beings.

Previews made me go, oh yea going to check this out. Watched it and I was like ok, than whaaat, wow crazy then got twisted again. The end had you really think how brainwashed, narrow minded some people are and how they still want to live in that time and is scary when you think about it and the end with the sign. Did I like the movie, not really, but I haven't really cared of the directors movies. Good actors, theme good but I just didn't care for it but will watch them if seems interesting to watch.

Very disturbing; a great deal of violence and sexual violence. But also an interesting story in the second half of the movie...

"Antebellum" is not a historical treatment of the horror of slavery. Its expressionism (not realism) explores the cruelty and trauma suffered by the enslaved through an original screenplay. The impact of slavery's destruction of the family structure and culture of the enslaved persists to this day. Many Americans brainwashed by the big lie of American exceptionalism are unable to see how the past shapes the present. "Antebellum" exposes the lie of the gracious, heroic Southerner by expanding Confederate statues to the size of a county of plantations. Drop your expectations to fully appreciate this film. It is truly an original.

Reminded me just a tiny bit of the movie the 2005 M.Night Shyamalan "The Village" but yet not.

When i really think about it,this slavery celluloid is really an empty and feminist copycat of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" film.It tries to be slick, but falls flat on its attempt to go over my head. This is literally the bottom of the barrel for slavery celluloid i have ever seen so far to date, period. It most definitely reminds me of why i am sick and tired of being sick and tired of this slavery genre, period.

Thought it was a horror based off the cover art. Found out it was more like the movie "Get Out." Great thriller, it pays off.

This movie could be accused of being exploitative up until the end when the metaphor comes full circle and you realize that history and its remembrance is more violent for some then it is for others. I can't say more without spoiling the ending.

Not an attractive film for me at all, therefore one star rating.
