Pretty good movie , about the real, historic mafia of the Northeast US. The book is was based on, Charles Brandt’s “I Heard You Paint Houses,” is even better than the movie and worth reading.

A very good, kind of cerebral film, that clearly falls short of greatness...

Overly long yet still very engaging most of the time...

Pesci, Pacino, and especially De Niro, are all in fine, if not top form...

This docudrama delves into trust, friendship, love, power struggle and betrayal among the men who got involved in the inner circle of the Teamsters union. Well-crafted, gripping and engaging!

A well adapted "gangsta" movie with great actors and exciting action scenes!

Based off of Charles Brandt’s book “I Heard You Paint Houses,” this movie chronicles Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran’s life as a hitman including his startling confession of assassinating corrupt Teamster president Jimmy Hoffa.
Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese catch wind of the memoir and decides to bring their “gang” of Joe Pesci, Al Pacino and Harvey Keitel for one last (possibly) mafia love-fest in “The Irishman.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t pan out. The core actors are decades older than the roles they play. If I may so, it looked more like a retirement community theater’s rendition of Goodfellas or Casino. And because of their ages, action scenes were crochety and awkward. Another complaint I had is the choice of Italian-American actors for Jimmy Hoffa (German/Irish) and Frank Sheeran (Irish) played by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro respectively. I got confused especially when Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino) was being derogatory towards another crime boss, Tony Provenzano (Stephen Graham). I kept thinking to Hoffa/Pacino - “Well, aren’t you Italian??”
I have enjoyed the book and sat through the movie, only to find reports backed by mafia experts that Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran was more of an errand boy than a mob hitman. But who’s to say, there is no one alive to challenge that.

Martin Scorsese proves once again why he is one of the greatest filmmaker of all time. From start till the end the movie is brilliant, slower than usual Scorsese flicks, but brilliantly done. The editing of the movie is terrific and it will never bore, it movies at a slow pace, its poetic and story is just outstanding. Al Pacino was the standout performance for me, he gave a mind blowing performance, probably the best performance of the year. Joe Pesci was unbelievably good, especially considering Goodfellas, Casino and Raging Bull, he was really different. Robert De Niro was mesmerizing, just outstanding, especially in the last 30 minutes he was insane. The movie movie had one of the most impactful last 30 minutes, emotional and makes one question about their life. 10/10- cinema at its finest.

A great Scorcese film similar to GoodFellas, Casino, Mean Streets. It is the first time that Scorcese made a film with Al Pacino. A portrait of loyalty and betrayal, may I suggest of Shakespearian levels? There is some question as to whether the ending is truthful (Vanity Fair Magazine).

Everything about this movie is perfect, from the acting to the cinematography. Yes- it is a long movie, 3hrs 20 minutes, but I can't understand why people complain about that. This movie is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. One of the best if not the best mob/gangster movie of my lifetime. The story is a journey, a complex journey, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.
