oh my god if you are considering reading this book GO FOR IT. i picked it up yesterday and i couldn't put it down and finished today. genuinely this book continually surprised me, and sure there are predictable things but those distract you from the real secrets brewing underneath the words. i fell in love with the world, characters and entrancing writing. the plot is so good and i never found myself getting bored, i was always on the edge of my seat trying to read every word as fast as i could so i could flip the page. i have no complaints.

Jude is amazing, as well as Vivi and Cardan, the Roach, the Bomb, the Ghost... and so many more, but I honestly HATE Taryn, she's such a betrayal, worst sister ever!! 5 stars.

Although the title implies that this book has a strong focus on the relationship between Jude and Cardan, it really doesn't. It's a story about Jude, and almost more-so about the land of Elfhame and the world of Faerie. The world building is rich, detailed, and very well thought-out, drawing on a lot of classical Irish faerie lore. I believe this series takes place in the same world as some of Black's previous YA titles, with some of her old characters popping in for cameos (correct me if I'm wrong). It was a quick read. *fair warning, while the first book has minimal romance and nothing more than a kiss, the scenes get more explicit as the series progresses.

Definitely one of the best books I've read, I honestly thought I was over faerie worlds but this book proved me wrong. Jude is one of the best fictional characters I've ever read, and the plot is phenomenal, with everything in general just being very well written. Jude has loads of amazing moments and epic quotes

The first half is a slow burn, though I very much liked the complicated dynamics of the faery family and the realistic push-pull of loyalties and conflicts between the sisters, who each have their own different (sometimes clashing) desires/plans for the future. The second half was fast-moving and wonderfully unpredictable with the dangerous schemes and counter-schemes!
Unpopular opinion: I don't ship the romance. But thankfully, it only comes up later and doesn't take over the story.
Definitely picking up book 2 to see how things play out!

Oh my God! This book was absolutely phenomenal, like can I give this book 10 stars! I think I found my new favorite book! That's really saying something, because I love all books so for me to categorize something as maybe being my favorite is unheard of! First off this book was really out of my comfort zone, I hardly ever read "fantasy" novels so I thought there is no way I can get through this book. In fact I started it once while I was in Japan and gave up miserably. It wasn't until my fellow book blogger Marian Nguyen urged me to finish this novel that I did, and I am so glad that she pushed me. It started out really dark to be honest. A group of girl's parents get brutally murdered in the very first chapter and are kidnapped to live in this magical land full of faerie's. This is where I stopped reading, but just push through it because I swear this book is worth it! These three girls are raised after their kidnapping in the land of Faerie's among royalty. They go to school with a few other royal kids but nobody "excepts" the mortals in this world and they are badly bullied. Long story short this is like the best romance novel that I've ever read! A lot happens in this novel, and there was NEVER a dull moment. It was just back to back action and romance and scheming, etc. It was just really good, I don't know how to describe this novel without completely giving everything away! Holly Black just did a truly magnificent job of bring this magical land to life.

I know, I just blasted another book for being TOO magical. The difference is, I was EXPECTING this one to be fanciful. I quite enjoyed it. I read this for my Popsugar reading challenge. Immediately following this review I will be placing a hold on the next book. I got through this bad boy very quickly. I do like YA for that. I won't ever re-read this book but liked the style enough to read another! I would recommend this book to YA fantasy fans.

THIS...THIS BOOK WAS...AMAZING. The characters grew on you and you really started to feel what they felt and even the characters you started off hated found a place in your heart. The author is stunningly talented. She shapes the characters well and comes up with the smartest twists and turns in a book. The characters imperfections and flaws were written so well along with their feeling. She gave such detail about the world that Jude lived in but you wanted to know more and more. The books just got better and better until the series was over and that was a sad day. I couldn't put them down once I got into them but I wish I savored them at least a little more. Anyway this is one of my all time favorite books. It really makes you think and feel many, many emotions.
Hope this encouraged you to read it:)

By the author nicknamed the Queen of Faeries comes a new series. Faeries who cannot lie, a blood thirsty monarchy, and a girl who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. What more could you ask for? I know I couldn't put it down!

" worrying about death, about pain, about anything? If I stopped trying to belong? Instead of being afraid, I could become something to fear. "

What they don’t realize is this: Yes, they frighten me, but I have always been scared, since the day I got here. I was raised by the man who murdered my parents, reared in a land of monsters. I live with that fear, let it settle into my bones, and ignore it. If I didn’t pretend not to be scared, I would hide under my owl-down coverlets in Madoc’s estate forever. I would lie there and scream until there was nothing left of me. I refuse to do that. I will not do that.

Seventeen-year-old Jude and her twin sister, Taryn, are mortals who have lived in Faerie since they were children, raised by the Faerie general who murdered their parents in order to retrieve his daughter, their half-sister Vivi. Despite this violent beginning, Jude longs to find her place in the High Court of King Eldred, and dreams of knighthood and acceptance. However, many of the high fey will never see a mortal as anything more than a servant, to be used and discarded at will. Worst among these is Prince Cardan, youngest of the High King’s sons, who seems to have a special hatred for Jude, and the way she had been raised as if she were part of the Gentry. When the High King announces that he will abdicate his throne, and pass the Blood Crown to one of his six children, Jude is caught up in political intrigues and violent betrayals, and is quickly reminded why the Faerie Court is no place for humans.
