This is an engrossing animated film which uses many conventions of the Masaki Kobayashi masterpiece, "Kwaidan." Atari, the ward of Mayor Kobayashi of Megasaki City, goes to Trash Island in search of his dog, Spots. But he has more help than he expected. I notice that some commenters talk about the violence, but it all takes place in the traditional cartoon clouds of dust. The voice acting is fine, and the music is inventive, particularly the use of Prokofiev by the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra. Definitely worth a look. Oh, and two words: Sub. Woofer.

I've got a soft spot for writers who can take dark material and make it light and funny.
And I've got a soft spot for Wes Anderson, who writes and directs in the most unusual way. His pacing and dialogue is incredible.
He's an actual genius, and I think this is the best of his I've seen.
I laughed and laughed.

When an evil mayor who prefers cats convinces his community that all dogs are dangerous and must be sent to an abandoned island, a young orphan boy goes on a rescue mission to get his dog back. I love how the movie is mainly told from the dogs' point of view. The dogs speak English while the humans speak Japanese (subtitled for those of us who don't speak the language). While there is some violence, it's much less than in the average Batman cartoon. Also note that while it is listed as a comedy, it's not a humorous movie. Think more action adventure for preteens-adults who like dystopic movies and books.

Although this is an animated feature it's really not for little kids. In fact, it's rated PG-13 and has quite a bit of violence. I liked it, but it's very dark and would not be good for little ones.

This is a wonderful family film. I kept waiting for the Gorillaz to make a cameo ( )

I thought this movie would be bad and boring so I was relenting to watch this, gonna waste time. But the review and synopsis were good so I watched it anyway. It turned out to be not at all bad nor boring. The movie was interesting, a little bit weird in its imagination, but overall it was a good and a pleasant movie to watch.

Wes Anderson first animation, Fantastic Mr. Fox, is followed by another great animation in Isle of Dogs. Dogs in Japan are facing extinction by a dog flu which is exacerbated by human anger and hate by expulsion to a garbage island. There's plenty of political intrigue in this animated talking dog movie which I thought was pretty cool and well done.

This movie is beautiful in such a precise Wes Andersony way. It has a great cast and the dogs are all very good. The main faults are the Smurfette syndrome (there is only one female dog with a speaking part) and if you were looking for anything resembling realism you'd be disappointed. I loved it.
