Some thing horrible is happening inside of me, and i d'ont know why. my nightly blood lust has overflowed into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of friendsy. i think my mask of sanity is about to slip."
Patrick Bateman: There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp, and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis; my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.
Patrick Bateman: "There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there."
Evelyn Williams: "Thousands of roses, and lots of chocolate truffles. Godiva. And oysters in the half-shell..." Patrick Bateman: (listening to a Walkman, narrating): "I'm trying to listen to the new Robert Palmer tape, but Evelyn, my 'supposed' fiancée, keeps buzzing in my ear." Evelyn Williams: "Annie Leibovitz. We'll get Annie Leibovitz. And we'll have to get someone to videotape. Patrick... we should do it!" Patrick Bateman: "Do what?" Evelyn Williams: "Get married. Have a wedding." Patrick Bateman: "No. I can't take the time off work."
Patrick Bateman: "I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip."
Patrick Bateman (lying to Detective Kimball with a fake excuse): "Listen, you'll have to excuse me. I have a lunch meeting with 'Cliff Huxtable' (of The Cosby Show) at the Four Seasons in 20 minutes."
[Looking at Paul Allen's business card]
Patrick Bateman: Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark!
Patrick Bateman: Do you know what Ed Gein said about women?
David Van Patten: Ed Gein? The maitre 'd at Canal Bar?
Patrick Bateman: No, serial killer, Wisconsin, the '50s.
Craig McDermott: So what did he say?
Patrick Bateman: "When I see a pretty girl walking down the street, I think two things. One part wants me to take her out, talk to her, be real nice and sweet and treat her right."
David Van Patten: And what did the other part think?
Patrick Bateman: "What her head would look like on a stick... "

Add a CommentBased on a bad novel, this flick turns out a meaninglessly violent and mad piece of junk.
I doubt about the director's sense of choosing a novel for filmmaking.
Even a good director could NOT make a good film from a bad script based on a bad novel.
One of the worst films I've ever viewed so far.
Don't waste your time on this junk.
Based on the truly gruesome novel of the same name (written back in 1991 by Brett Easton Ellis) - This decidedly weak and flimsy screen adaptation of "American Psycho" certainly didn't come even close to doing the horrific book justice. No, it didn't. Not even by a long-shot.
Believe me - When it comes to imitating the book's shocking content - This film fails miserably both in its inferior direction by Mary Harron, and, especially, by the total miscasting of that empty-headed actor, Christian Bale as the title character.
IMO - This horror story was definitely one of those pictures that took itself way too seriously and, as a result, it came across as being nothing but preposterous and laughable drivel in the long run.

Patrick Bateman: In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Patrick Bateman: Hey Paul!
I appreciated Bale's performance. Weird movie overall.

This is not a date night movie, unless you're dating Ted Bundy or Aileen Wurnos. Unfiltered, biting, and bizarrely funny, American Psycho is like a gift that keeps on giving.
Set in New York City in 1987, a young and handsome professional lives a double life. By day he is a charming and respectable man, but by night he is a psychotic serial killer who shows no mercy. This movie is a psychological thriller that brings you along for the ride as he finds his next victims and tries to keep up with his charade. The performances were slightly underwhelming at times and underplayed, however, the overall concept was interesting and definitely left you on the edge of your seat. I would rate this film 3.5/5 stars and recommend it to those with a fascination for the unwell. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
The book is often better than the movie. In this case, that is most certainly not true, if the two are even comparable. Bret Easton Ellis’s novel is a black comedy, comprised of deadly satire and dry scrutiny, and this film embodies none of what the text aspired to. American Psycho, the movie, is a unique blend of horror and humor, where the black comedy of the novel has been transmogrified into genuinely funny moments that don’t feel ‘not quite right’ like they do in the novel. Although it falls short of replicating the feeling that the novel so purposefully conveys, this newfound retelling of the same story is actually enjoyable to sit through. Unlike the novel, it does not suffer from being overly dry due to the inherent concept that it is told through the lens of a psychopath. If you enjoy the idea of the story, this movie is fantastic; if you wished for the novel in film form, this sadly is not that at all. - @FalcoLombardi of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
