THE GOOD DAUGHTER is another suspenseful read from Karin Slaughter. Creative story line, lots of twists and turns, and plenty of touches on some important issues of our times. It reads fast and is kind of hard to put down. One needs to be prepared for Slaughter's graphic scenes of bad behavior and violence. In this novel though she also touches on a couple of issues that are somewhat hard to process, including a school shooting. Still and all, this is her usual stuff and it is a good read.

This author did not disappoint with this latest novel. The details were repeated from various characters' perspectives, and were enhanced with each return to the memory banks of such a traumatic event. Graphic in some areas, but almost rote or clinical as appropriate for the character providing the detail. The graphic nature of this novel was appropriate for the crimes being relived. This author does not hold back, but I have read crime novels that were much more graphic, and those others were frequently extreme for just the shock value. Relationships were realistically complicated - and one needs to read to the very final pages for resolution. Great twists - I love that this author leaves no explanation forgotten as she weaves all the threads to the conclusion.

Too many detailed descriptions of unimportant activity. I like character/behaviour descriptions as much as anyone but these were over the top!
It was tedious reading though I stuck with it. The numerous repetitions of gory details was a bit much.
Will not be reading any more of this author's books.

Maybe it was just me but I found some of the book repetitive. I would start something and feel I'd read it before. Luckily, I could just skip through those parts. I have to agree with someone else about areas being too wordy. I consider this a good book but not great. Great, to me, is when you can't put the book down and can't wait to see the ending. I gave it a good because I would try to get into the book but would end up putting it down, reading another book and come back to it later. Parts of the book were good and I would read until I got bored.

Karin Slaughter has become one of my absolute favorite authors. I've been a big fan of the Will Trent series but with this stand-alone novel she has really outdone herself. There are
a few slow spots in the book but taken as a whole I would say this is her very best so far.
The plot twists and turns are amazing and I became very involved in the lives of the characters.
It was very hard to put down and now I need to try to catch up on all the household chores that I let slip while I was curled up with this great story.

Thriller about a two girls who experience a traumatic event in their young lives and how that follows them into the present day when another tragedy occurs in a schools where one girls who is now a woman, visits. Too much explaining events and harping on the traumatic events and not enough action for me in this story. Came out of it disappointed even though it got good reviews. Don't know if I'll read any more her though.

I have read a number of her books. This one is excellent and I rank it as highly as "Cop Town". Well worth the time.

This author is one of my favorite storytellers, and I think this was her best story to date. The main characters are well-developed, the plot is compelling and startling, there are mysteries and surprises, and everything is wrapped up tight in the end, making reading this a very satisfying experience. My only disappointment was finding sexism and crudeness (both simple, fleeting moments) that were somewhat jarring and entirely unnecessary to the story. Perhaps I have higher expectations of female authors.

I could have rated this book 4 instead of 3.5 but at times a well described personality or relationship used more words than necessary. However, the context of the story - events in time, past affecting the present, local hometown, father-daughter relationships, secrets and withheld information, rape, murder, - all kept me reading to find a complete, nothing left out, more-than-a-murder mystery.
