This was my first Karin Slaughter read and it likely won't be my last. While unbelievably gory at times, I did really enjoy this book. The characters were complicated and interesting. I loved all of the twists and turns. A dark, disturbing, and page-turning thriller.

Another good book by Karen Slaughter. Book was a bit tedious at times, but ended up very well.

I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter and her Grant County and Will Trent series. But this stand alone book was one that I couldn't even finish. So many pointless details that have nothing to do with the story line, I got through 3/4 of the book (I skipped about 100 pages of nonsense and still kept with the storyline like I didn't miss a page) and still had not even gotten to the meat of the book. I have not had good luck reading her few stand alone novels. The story line could have been good if there wasn't so much fluff around the story. Not going to regret not finishing it though.

Oddly enough, I had not heard of this author before and came to this story with no expectations, just an interest in the topics described in the promo. I sat down to read about 8 p.m. and the first time I raised my head from the pages it was 2 a.m. There is no higher compliment I can give an author than becoming so immersed in his or her story that I lose a huge chunk of time.

The storycraft here is great. Slaughter feeds us pieces of information slowly, but constantly, reeling the reader in like a prize catch. The characters are all rich and multidimensional. You are sure you would recognize them if you encountered them in the street. The Southern small town in all its simplicity and complexity is skillfully recreated.

The ending is a surprise, yet perfectly completes the series of circles that have defined the book.

Read it. You will be glad you did.

THE GOOD DAUGHTER is another suspenseful read from Karin Slaughter. Creative story line, lots of twists and turns, and plenty of touches on some important issues of our times. It reads fast and is kind of hard to put down. One needs to be prepared for Slaughter's graphic scenes of bad behavior and violence. In this novel though she also touches on a couple of issues that are somewhat hard to process, including a school shooting. Still and all, this is her usual stuff and it is a good read.

This author did not disappoint with this latest novel. The details were repeated from various characters' perspectives, and were enhanced with each return to the memory banks of such a traumatic event. Graphic in some areas, but almost rote or clinical as appropriate for the character providing the detail. The graphic nature of this novel was appropriate for the crimes being relived. This author does not hold back, but I have read crime novels that were much more graphic, and those others were frequently extreme for just the shock value. Relationships were realistically complicated - and one needs to read to the very final pages for resolution. Great twists - I love that this author leaves no explanation forgotten as she weaves all the threads to the conclusion.

Too many detailed descriptions of unimportant activity. I like character/behaviour descriptions as much as anyone but these were over the top!
It was tedious reading though I stuck with it. The numerous repetitions of gory details was a bit much.
Will not be reading any more of this author's books.

Maybe it was just me but I found some of the book repetitive. I would start something and feel I'd read it before. Luckily, I could just skip through those parts. I have to agree with someone else about areas being too wordy. I consider this a good book but not great. Great, to me, is when you can't put the book down and can't wait to see the ending. I gave it a good because I would try to get into the book but would end up putting it down, reading another book and come back to it later. Parts of the book were good and I would read until I got bored.

Karin Slaughter has become one of my absolute favorite authors. I've been a big fan of the Will Trent series but with this stand-alone novel she has really outdone herself. There are
a few slow spots in the book but taken as a whole I would say this is her very best so far.
The plot twists and turns are amazing and I became very involved in the lives of the characters.
It was very hard to put down and now I need to try to catch up on all the household chores that I let slip while I was curled up with this great story.
