Despite fine actors, this movie failed to engage me, and ultimately, about 20 minutes from the end, repelled me. One feels no empathy for these characters. They're not given any room to express themselves.

Crap...there were a few moments in the movie that were pretty entertaining. Besides that-crap.

A strange film. You should read some comments, and decide if you're the sort of person who can tolerate (or even enjoy) this. I found it thought-provoking and odd. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but it's worth investing 20-30 minutes, and hopefully you'll watch it all.
This movie reminded me of the work of Charles Bukowski: a lot of average/mundane, punctuated by flashes of brilliance. Parts of this movie are dull. The acting maintains a vaguely robotic feel throughout. And then you get some scenes that cannot be missed.

Wow. What were Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz thinking by doing this movie??? Not many movies that I give 2 stars to unless they're just bad movies. I do NOT even know what to make of this movie. Just weird!

Perhaps the worst movie I've ever sat through. Fast forward was working just fine with occasional stops to see if it had gotten any better. Film should be rated "US" for utterly stupid.

As described on the back, "Hilarious and bracingly weird." Well, i found that it was a bit shockingly weird, with some scenes, however, mostly because of the editing and story telling. It raised more questions than it answered and seemed choppy and characters were robotic in nature. This may have been intended, but it did not make me want to watch any of the special features, looking for any clarity!
Was interesting to try a film that Rachel Weisz was in, as normally i think of her as a good actress. Even though this film did suggest some interesting issues, this was not a film that did it well.

Certainly a movie you would not watch if you wanted a light evening of humour. Would suggest watching it with friends (suggest single friends) and then discussing it afterwards. My only wish was that more of the philosophy would have been explained.

The Making of The Lobster add-on that comes with the DVD is useful.

Whoa. This movie is one of those. Just whoa. If you can't handle that kind of hanging statement, then this is not the movie for you.

I found this movie really upsetting and didn't finish it. The subject matter is interesting and unique, but I think they could have conveyed the same concepts without depicting such human cruelty.

If you have been married and divorced and then married again, or, if you continue to date yet just below the surface of your consciousness is the suspicion that what you are doing -- the mating ritual, the relationship thing, coupling, partnering, companionship, whatever you want to call it -- is totally irrational, well, then you'll love this movie. I did. It is an immaculately produced allegory about romantic love, which is really a story about fear and desperation. For all Colin Farrell fans I think this is his finest picture yet,

***Spoiler Alert***
Why a lobster?
-Because lobster live for over one hundred years. Are blue blood like aristocrat... and stay fertile all their life. I also like the sea very much. I water ski, swim quite well since I was a teenager.
-I must congratulate you, the first thing most people think of is a dog... which is why the world is full of dogs. Very few people choose unusual animal... which is why they are in danger.
Back when you loved me, you asked me one morning while we were talking: "what was life about?" I turned and told you ... for some it's the wine, for some it's the glory, for some it's being rich, but for me it is only you ... Now that your heart has changed and you love someone else, you still wonder what they're saying. How my own heart beats. Are there perhaps more people like me exist. Dead on the inside. Alive on the outside.

What's worse? to die of cold and hunger in the woods, to become a animal would be killed or eaten by some big animal, or have nose bleed from time to time.
We all dance by ourselves. That's why we only play electronic music.
What does the photograph show?
-A naked woman on a horse in the country.
If I were in your shoes I would not be ogling the naked woman but the horse. I'm sure that horse's once a weak and cowardly man...
just like you

One day, as he was playing golf, he thought that it is more difficult to pretend you do have feelings
when you don't... than to pretend you don't have feelings when you do.
If this woman die, do you think you manage on you own? Or will you get involve with someone else?
-No, I can live alone. She can't. I'm on my own for hours when she got out the hotel. I like sitting in the room... relaxes me, calms me. I like it a lot. I can definitely live on my own.
The most important thing is that you're not bald. However when comes to men, bald is always the possibility you can't avoid. ls your father bald?
-No he isn't. And even if someday I lose my hair, there are things I can do to get my hair back. I can have a hair transplant.
You always can tell someone had a hair transplant.
-I know.
Nice hair is not something you can get. It's something you born with. The fact your father isn't bald shouldn't put you at ease.
