What a great read! I picked this up because of the beautiful cover and I was not disappointed. It is a really fun and inventive middle grades fantasy. It has shades of Roald Dahl, with a precocious but down-trodden and misunderstood young protagonist up against villainous adults. And of course our hero amasses a rag-tag group of friends who help him along the way. There is also plenty of weirdness and some magic. The art throughout is beautiful with pictures and formatting that add to the overall experience. I highly recommend this to young fantasy fans. It would also be a great family read-aloud.

This book is wonderful. The art, the story, the characters. It is filled with mysteries, codes and age appropriate suspense. We read this and it's sequel, and eagerly await the next one. A must-read!!

A wonderful, funny book. Young Warren the 13th is the thirteenth in his family to care for his ancient hotel, being the bellhop, valet, groundskeeper and errand boy. This delightful book with countless of intricate illustrations will please readers of all ages!

A quirky novel that's fast, funny, and a little spooky. Excellent illustrations.

It's too bad I didn't read this a few weeks ago, because then I would have been able to suggest it for a list of Roald Dahl readalikes that a colleague was working on. It meets that criteria, along with hints of Lemony Snicket, gothic mystery, quirky fantasy, and steampunk adventure. And it's wonderfully illustrated and packaged, on top of everything else. Delightfully strange and strangely delightful.
