Wow, this is an incredibly illustrated and moving story about a dog who is not wanted and eventually abandoned but taken in by a new family. The best theme of the story is how misunderstood the dog is and how so many people don't accept a dog as a dog that does dog things like dig and bark. When the dog is finally appreciated and loved the story arc completes with the dog feeling finally loved with a new name. Just a wonderful book.

While I agree with much of what other reviewers have said, I find this book and a good addition to a preschool story time as a way to help develop a child's empathy.
