"Orphan X is the most gripping, high-octane thriller I've read in a long, long time. Hang onto your seat because Gregg Hurwitz will take you on a dizzying ride you'll not soon forget!" -Tess Gerritsen The Nowhere Man is a legendary figure spoken about only in whispers. It's said that when he's reached by the truly desperate and deserving, the Nowhere Man can and will do anything to protect and save them. But he's no legend. Evan Smoak is a man with skills, resources, and a personal mission to help those with nowhere else to turn. He's also a man with a dangerous past. Chosen as a child, he was raised and trained as part of the off-the-books black box Orphan program, designed to create the perfect deniable intelligence assets--i.e. assassins. He was Orphan X. Evan broke with the program, using everything he learned to disappear. Now, however, someone is on his tail. Someone with similar skills and training. Someone who knows Orphan X. Someone who is getting closer and closer. And will exploit Evan's weakness--his work as The Nowhere Man--to find him and eliminate him. Grabbing the reader from the very first page, Orphan X is a masterful thriller, the first in Gregg Hurwitz's electrifying new series featuring Evan Smoak"-- Provided by publisher.

This is definitely a “guys book.” Well written, and the plot moves along at a rapid pace. However, Hurwitz describes guns and knives and details fight scenes to the degree that I found myself just skimming those sections. With that in mind, I won’t read future installments in the series.

Created for the screen action character. From Kim to the present we have a fascination with the molding of a child into a secret agent. I'm sure it has been done ala Red Sparrow and the Bourne type characters. Now we have another who works for himself with apparently unlimited funds for good-told you there was a movie there-who can resist?

I loved this character Evan Smoak. I look forward to reading the other books about Evan. He is a vigilante who helps people in need of someone with his particular set of skills.

I guess the author's agent told him to create a series character. You know, like that Jack Reacher guy. This is the feeble result. Comic book characters and far-fetched story.

I wish my assassin dad was a walking cliche. Beethoven CDs are so good for children studying--even those studying weaponry dismantlement! I would be so cultured if my assassin dad cared for me like that, making me read Homer and Shakespeare in between Mace training. If you tried to fit one more cliche into this book, the spine would break. Go watch a James Bond movie instead.

I had to persevere due to the amount of uninteresting and superfluous detail. Mid-way through. it became truly interesting.

Never heard of the TV show but I gave the book an average rating. The ending was too predictable!

I really enjoyed this book. Plenty of action, suspense and twists. Evan's character is fully detailed - going back to his being raised by Jack, his handler, to present day events. The ending was a surprise and this will most likely be part of the next "Nowhere Man" series. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next one.
