"Picking up the action about a year later [from The Alloy of Law], Shadows of Self shows us much more about how the Mistborn world and society are evolving as technology and magic mix, the economy grows, democracy contends with corruption, and religion becomes a growing cultural force, with four faiths competing for believers. This bustling, optimistic, but still shaky society now faces its first instance of terrorism, crimes intended to stir up labor strife and religious conflict. Wax and Wayne, assisted by the lovely, brilliant Marasi, must unravel the conspiracy before civil strife stops Scadrial's progress in its tracks"-- Provided by publisher

A great follow up to the Alloy of Law. Either this series is growing on me or the second chapter in the series is much more engaging. The first entry felt more like a spin off of the original Mistborn trilogy. After this entry, it feels more like it's own story. It's still a western fantasy series, but Shadows of Self doubled down on the thriller mystery element from the first chapter. One element I really enjoyed was Wayne. Wayne , who seemed more like a typical comedic foil 'side kick' character, was developed a lot more this time around. He's still a side kick, but you get a better understanding for why he is the way he is in this book. The same goes for Steris. You also get a better picture of the events that occurred in the 300 years between Hero of the Ages and Alloy of Law. The 'evolution' of the Lord Mistborn and the reformation of his native dialect was particularly amusing. I'm looking forward to the third chapter in the trilogy.

Start at Mistborn for sure.

It so a good book, but it is not the original series. If you enjoyed the Mistborn series, this helps lessen the blow of not having those characters in your life anymore. If you are a fantasy reader, start from the beginning with Mistborn. You will love it!

This book was excellent. I always guess how it is going to end and I'm usually disappointed since I'm right most of the time. This time the ending surprised me and I love that. There were times that it lacked action but I love the characters and how they interact with each other.
