"For the past thirty-three years, Angela Gillespie has sent to friends and family around the world an end-of-the-year letter titled "Hello from the Gillespies." It's always been cheery and full of good news. This year, Angela surprises herself-she tells the truth.... The Gillespies are far from the perfect family that Angela has made them out to be. Her husband is coping badly with retirement. Her thirty-two-year-old twins are having career meltdowns. Her third daughter, badly in debt, can't stop crying. And her ten-year-old son spends more time talking to his imaginary friend than to real ones. Without Angela, the family would fall apart. But when Angela is taken away from them in a most unexpected manner, the Gillespies pull together-and pull themselves together-in wonderfully surprising ways. READERS GUIDE INCLUDED."--

I thought this book was a very fun read. I read at least 3-4 chapters a night and it became a total page-burner by the end. I definitely did not realize it was over 600 pages long, but it only took me a couple weeks to finish. This is my second book of Monica's and and browsing for more right now :)

Light but long read. Loved the outback setting and the character of Ig the most.

While reading, I kept thinking about a movie "Muriel's wedding" and that is not a good thing! The book is about ankle deep, and the characters are just underdeveloped. Not even suitable for a transatlantic flight. Boggles the mind that she has all those awards.

I did enjoy this book. It was a good light read. The one fault I felt was that it was a bit on the long side with a few added turns that could have been left out. Nevertheless I'm going to try something else written by this author.

In my opinion this book was too long, to predictable. I like my characters to have a little more depth.

Angela Gillespie has written an annual Christmas letter for 33 years. The letter has been packed with such positive news that most members of her family don't recognize themselves or each other. This year's letter is different. Angela wrote her worries and fears as a test letter before composing the public version. Fate intervened and the practice letter went out to 100 e-mail addresses. This novel details the consequences of sharing your real family with the world.

Highly recommended!

"My darling Ignatius. I love my little Ig very much. Which is why I can say with certainty that he has turned into a very weird little boy."
