Sort of a Dan Brown styling, three inter-related story lines with short chapters and cliffhangers, jumping back and forth. Story 1, a young navy recruit still trying to find himself is stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. He demonstrates his incredible cryptography skills to his superiors and is immediately transferred to Bletchley Park in England, the top secret group assigned to break the German Enigma code. Story 2, in the same time-line, a young Marine recruit stationed in the Philippines arranges marriage with his attractive Filipino fiancé, only to have their plans countered by the Japanese invasion of the Philipines. Story 3, occurring in current times, a San Francisco high-tech entrepreneur searches for WWI gold using cryptography to decipher the clues. Sounds pretty interesting, right? The problem is that it drags on too much. A case where the author over-indulges his muse. 34 discs, 1000 pages. Would have been much better at 12 discs, 300 pages. Recommended only if you have a lot of time on your hands.
