Not my favorite of Flynn's - but it was still fantastically original and completely demented.

First of all, I "read" this as an audio book. I noted that the author tried to be authentic with real KS and MO town references (except for her "actual" home town). However, as a Kansan myself, I noticed easy pronunciation errors by the readers, such as the central
Kansas city of "Saleena" and "Hair-a-ford" cattle.

I thought Gone Girl was much better. The ending here was just too contrived for my taste.

An enjoyable read, but in the same category as Gone Girl.

I loved this book. I was hooked from the beginning and really enjoyed the story. A lot of people commented saying that it was hard to read a book with such dislikable characters but I think that aspect of it make me admire the book even more. Excited to read more from Gillian Flynn.

Did not like this book much. I agree about the narrator, she was not very likable. I felt like she was unwilling to move on with her life and wanted others to support her. After she connected with The Kill Club she did start sleuthing some. Not sure about Ben, her brother. He might be better off staying where he is. Could say so much more but it would all be spoilers, so I will refrain.

I enjoyed Gone Girl (Flynn's recent bestseller) so much, and was hoping for an equally riveting story from Dark Places. It was interesting and had a similar feel to be sure, but the narrator was very unlikable and the story was just not as compelling for me. For mystery lovers it does offer some interesting twists and turns, so if you want to be a super sleuth give it a go!
