"Alice Metcalf was a devoted mother, loving wife, and accomplished scientist who studied grief among elephants. Yet it's been a decade since she disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind her small daughter, husband, and the animals to which she devoted her life. All signs point to abandonment . . . or worse. Still Jenna--now thirteen years old and truly orphaned by a father maddened by grief--steadfastly refuses to believe in her mother's desertion. So she decides to approach the two people who might still be able to help her find Alice: a disgraced psychic named Serenity Jones, and Virgil Stanhope, the cynical detective who first investigated her mother's disappearance and the death of one of her mother's co-workers. Together these three lonely souls will discover truths destined to forever change their lives. Deeply moving and suspenseful, Leaving Time is a radiant exploration of the enduring love between mothers and daughters"--

Loved this story. Was pulled in and could not put it down. I recommended it to my sister and she is having the same experience with it. Great book!

Plodding, dull, predictable...oh, and elephants. Woohoo.

Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. Loved this story and love how she can really portray human emotions/trials in her stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I remember hearing Jodi speak before this book was written -- someone asked what her next book would be, and she said it would have to do with elephants, so I've been looking forward to this book for several years. I love how thoroughly she researches her subjects, and felt confident that what I was learning about elephant behavior was accurate. I have a much greater appreciation for them and their society. I liked that this audio book was narrated in different voices for each character. The voice for Alice was a bit langourous, appropriate for the story line that started way in the past and slowly worked toward the present, but a little tedious. The other characters, were working backward from the present, and the interweaving of the stories was well done, as was the growth and learning process of the characters. The ending seemed a bit contrived with unexpected twists in the tale that made me wonder if there were hints I missed earlier in the book. It makes me want to read (listen to) it again now that I know how it ends.

I was really in to this book, and then came the bizarre twist at the end...way off track of where I thought the book was going. I learned alot about elephants and grief.

I've read most of Picoult's books and I'm finding it harder and harder to stick with them to get to what is usually a powerful ending. I'm pretty sure I would have set this one aside except I was listening, which, being more passive than reading, makes it possible to zone out sometimes. I found this book a little tedious. Yes, the characters were interesting and well-developed but the long elephant passages became hard to get through. When the narrator switched back to Jenna or Serenity from Alice I just said "yes!". The audiobook uses different voices for the different narrators which is nice. I thought the ending was good because I was beginning to wonder what it was all for if Alice was dead.

A totally amazing book! It was my first Jodi Picoult book and I was deeply touched as well as amused by the story and characters. Don't miss this one and I recommend it to everyone.

The book dragged on and on. The story could and should have been completed in half the words

I love a book that surprises me! Mission accomplished!
