On their fourth album, Fucked Up pares things back to a single LP. In contrast to the sprawling epic of their last album, the punk rock opera David Comes to Life, the new album returns to rock n' roll basics.

Everything about Toronto's Fucked Up is big, from the band (6 members) to the sound to song lengths to lead singer Pink Eyes' girth. The band combines the fury and intensity of classic hardcore with the messy guitar squall of 90s indie rock (a link made explicit by guest J Mascis) and blows them up to epic size. After the ambitious, nearly 80-minute song cycle "David Comes to Life," their fourth album, "Glass Boys," is a more modest affair, but no less aggressive. If name doesn't turn you off, the shredded vocal cord singing of Pink Eyes might. If not, you'll find them to be an unusually intelligent band who aren't afraid to go for the throat or to add melody to their sonic assault. You might also like fellow Canadian rockers Japandroids.
