I got a bit confused in series 3 - all of Wallander's support staff have disappeared. They have a woman named Ann Brit but it looks like a different actress. And Tom Hiddleston (Magus Martinson) is gone. The stories are good. I liked the Dogs of Riga episode that sends Wallander to Latvia to solve a crime. Another has him investigating the deaths of Polish women who have traveled to Sweden. Wallander moves in with a girlfriend but loses her - he seems to be married to his job and cannot separate the two. His father has developed dementia and his daughter is drifting away. Lots of drama in Ystad!
Someone should tell Kenneth Branagh that this is not Shakespeare!!!
I never liked Kenneth Branagh much before, he always seemed miscast as a tough guy hero type. Here he is perfect, this is the second time in a few weeks we have borrowed this, love it..... Good plots, strange characters committing crimes, and a detective team which approaches these things as one imagines the Swedes do, with great respect for each other and a much more egalitarian and participative culture than the Anglo hierarchical culture we have here would tolerate. One can be effective and have sentiment and vulnerable emotions as well.....
I have to admit i haven't watched the Swedish version yet, but this series is one of the better adaptions from foreign shows. I'm not the biggest fan of Branagh, he usually comes off as arrogant in his roles, but this is an exception. I recommend it, but can't wait to see the original version.
Glad I checked this out - already saw season 1 with Branagh - but this is my favorite of the seasons with him. Gotta check out the original Swedish version now.
The original Swedish series is far superior to this, even with sub-titles. Although I am a devotee of anything British, I did not like Kenneth Branagh's portrayal of Wallander. Even if you've watched this series, you should watch the Swedish version and compare the difference.
Dark but so well done it keeps you watching..... it didn't make me rush down to get a ticket to Sweden but the landscapes certainly suited the plots. A great piece for Branagh.
This is such a great, suspenseful, well produced series. Branagh is a master of film acting and fascinating to watch. Not as good as the first series, but definitely worth seeing.
This is a wonderful series. Episode after episode, it never disappoints.
