Book 1 in trilogy, followed by Gabriel's Rapture and then Gabriel's Redemption. Story of Julia Mitchell, a graduate student who enrolled in Professor Gabriel Emerson's class at U of T. The two share a short but very memorable past, even though only Julia remembers it at first. The story drags on a bit as it focuses on their emotional love, even though they don't really know each other. Then finally it escalates into the physical in a scene that is totally unbelievable - the perfection is too much. I will switch back to the paranormal romances, as they seem a bit more realistic.

I really feel this is better than the "50 shades" series. The romance grabs you, sometimes seeming a little over the top. The first half was outstanding. The second half seems like it was the same thing just being said a different way and in a different situation. I honestly cannot wait to finish up this series because from where it leaves off, there is such possibility for Julia and Gabriel and the different directions their relationship/life can take us.

I don't know what the big hoopla about 50 Shades is all about. But this book is better written and far more intelligent than 50 Shades. I really Plus, it is not only about sex. It gives you more about history and literature.

How did I get here? What kind of Illusory superiority! I was trying to avoid "50 shades of Grey" and got something similar.
Well, in Toronto there are a lot of handsome men professors, who are a little over 30, but they know several languages, all about Italian literature, mainly on Dante, they
dress in luxurious shops, don't accept anything mediocre or poor, know everything about sex, and how to do it perfectly, go only to super-expensive restaurants and nightclubs, live in places that can not be afforded by an ordinary mortal, etc. But the main thing - they are very well read and smart! Is that right? How so? Where did they get a time to learn everything in perfection?
In this book, all the characters are very beautiful in their physical appearance, smart and inimitable.
If you need a guide to fashionable and expensive places in Toronto - this book could serve for such purpose.

This book was on a list of '50 Shades read likes'. I really enjoyed the build up of tension between the two characters. If 50 Shades was too graphic or smutty for you then this book will probably be to your liking. I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to the next in the series.

I absolutely loved it! It is a blistering page-turning look at what falling in love really is. I loved how Julia was able to make Gabriel look at physical love as an expression of emotional love, and not as sexual gratification. Endearing and heartfelt. I cannot wait to read the next book. The third book comes out in December 2013.

If you enjoyed the 50 Shades series than you'll want to read this book. In fact, I think the writing is even better. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and I can't wait to read the next book!

I don't care what the other commentor had to say....I just loved both these books .......he had me in tears and I guess the writer has accomplished what he set out to do and that is entertaining and escaping reality.......highly recommend both gabriels inferno and rapture!

This ISN'T romance. This is misogyny wrapped up in some messed up abuse novel, disguised as romance. I couldn't find a single thing that was likeable or attractive about this character, because all he did was get pissed off, beat his family, boss Julia around and generally act like an asshole. This is the kinda dude you get a restraining order against in real life. I can't for the life of me understand how anyone can consider this romantic. Aside from that, the writing is childish. It may appeal to someone who is 13 and hasn't read much before, but an adult? If you want to read some actual romance and erotica, I suggest looking else where.
