The review of this book under "Reviews" is actually a review of the first book of the series, 1974. If you began with this book, it would be a very confusing read indeed. If you undertake the reading of this series, and I highly recommend that you do, you have to resign yourself to the fact that clarity won't be achieved until you read the fourth book, 1983.

This crime-thriller novel is part 2 of a 4-part series. Original, poetic, bleak and violent - it still remained a very compelling read. Perhaps if I had started with the first book, things would have been clearer. As it is, I found it to be a VERY confusing read, and actually haven't got a clue as to how it ended. On the 1001 books to read before you die list in 2006; it was removed from the 2008 list.
