I can't speak to history, as I don't know it, but this heartwarming, joy-filled yet tragic family story had me from the start. I read a review suggesting that there were so few survivors among the Roma/Nomads of Europe after WWII, this film might be treasured just for the information it shares. I found the color, music, and scenery very engaging; the characters with their humor and culture to be people I'd love to meet. Please invite the kids (12+) and french language students to watch with you - there's enough going on here to keep them hanging on through the subtitles.

What an absolutely amazing and beautiful film!! Very vivid and thought-provoking. We fell in love with the characters and the storyline. Very very bittersweet.

The film is a picture of history, fluidly told through effective casting and characterization, brilliant cinematography, perfect music and creative sound design. Strong positive message about what a life can be. AWESOME!

A visual and musical feast of a movie. James Thierree embodies his role with such zest and emotion that itches, consumes, rejoices, and rolls around in the mud of life. The time period is both haunting and defiant, the actors are all the most gorgeous people I have ever seen. All I want to do is dance and play music and run run run into the wilderness now.

I think this movie could have used a lot more character depth, cultural understanding...and historical research.
