Florence Nightingale is an aristocratic woman who defied Victorian society to reform hospital sanitation and to define the nursing profession as it is known today. After volunteering to travel to Scutari to care for the wounded soldiers of the Crimean War, she was scorned by her community and was faced with great opposition for her new way of thinking. However, through her selfless acts of caring, she quickly became known as 'The Lady with the Lamp, ' the caring nurse whose shadow softened those who had been wounded in battle.

Very well done. Excellent acting all around . Jacklyn Smith is one of the most beautiful women to ever appear on screen> she is more than just one of Charlies Angels.

It was nice to see a movie about a woman who steps out of her society to create needed change in the nursing world. She used her influence and the means available to her to be the answer to many people's prayers.

Nice, clean, well-acted movie. Jaclyn Smith as a beautiful Florence Nightingale, plus Timothy Dalton exuding tons of charm, masculinity and beauty. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed this very much. It had historical info. The acting was well done. The story was strong.

I did hesitate about picking this one up, as I can't see Jaclyn Smith as a serious actress. It was worse than I thought - as much as I love Jeremy Brett, and admire several of the other British actors in this film, I would not recommend this to anyone. I am sure they are suitably embarrassed to have been in such a stilted and pointless film. Part of my discontent was that I couldn't see why Florence Nightingale had to have an American accent!

I love Florence Nightingale's biography and I thought Florence and the head nurse did a great job at acting their parts. Still, I think the movie would be more enjoyable after an upgrade--you can tell this movie was made several years ago.
