This is a beautiful and touching book with a setting in WWII. The story follows Amandine (a young orphan left at a convent in France) through her journey and struggle for life and to find her heritage. Amandine bonds with several people throughout her journey, who grow to love her as their own child. The book provides a vivid look at loss and heartbreak from WWII and its impact from a personal perspective.
This book is beautifully written - about Nazi-occupied France during WWII. The book takes your surprise at certain moments. I like the fact that the author makes certain that the war affects everyone.
