I have read Malcolm Gladwells books. This is an excellent review. Thank you.

The Art of Choosing is an interesting book, however not nearly as engaging as books by Malcolm Gladwell, nor as illuminating as The Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz. However it is still worthwhile reading, particularly if you have not read Gladwell's or Schwartz's books.

Iyengar discusses the impact of choice, and of choosing, in life. In fact, her identification and discussion of the impact of culture on the importance of "choice" is one of the most interesting aspects of this book. She surveys choice from several perspectives besides culture, including the relative importance of various choices in our lives, the effect of number of choices on choosing, and the psychological costs of choosing. The book is organised into seven chapters, each with a strong theme. In addition, she provides notes for each chapter, an extensive bibliography, and an index. This is somewhat of an academic survey of the topic, but written in a conversational tone.

Unfortunately, I often found myself impatient to reach the end of each chapter. In many cases I felt there was just too much prose to wade through to get to the point, and as result the book didn't always hold my attention, although the subject matter itself is fascinating and indeed, central to our day-to-day lives.

In summary, this book is probably an essential guide if you are studying the subject of "choice", but if you are reading about this topic for entertainment and general edification, I'd put it on your B-list.
