1973, Phoenix, Arizona. A beautiful woman with a gun enters a house with her twelve-year-old daughter. When they leave, the man inside is dead.

Though the only witness to the fatal shooting is in a catatonic state and unable to testify, the police, the attorney general's office, and the media have already declared the woman guilty. But the best trial lawyer in Phoenix, Dan Morgan, has been hired to prove her innocent.

For Morgan and his idealistic young prot#65533;g#65533;, Doug McKenzie, the goal is to win at any cost. But there are no easy answers, only shocks and mysteries, as the question of guilt versus innocence takes on a profound and disturbing new meaning.

"With a strongly depicted setting (Phoenix, Arizona) and an expert's grasp of legal matters, author Gordon Campbell impressed reviewers with his debut, in which lawyers must defend the 12-year-old girl they've just proved is guilty of her father's murder. Narrated by a newbie associate who works with famed trial lawyer Dan Morgan, Missing Witness is a "page-turner that is also a fascinating primer on the law" (Booklist). Fans of Scott Turow's provocative plots won't want to miss it." A throwback motive--being a closeted lesbian is all it takes to make a murderer--is ridiculous.

Great read, but sure sign of a first novel is that the ending fizzles a bit. Will look forward to more from this author, tho.

A novice lawyer and a veteran become associates who get a woman off of a murder conviction by proving her daughter did it only to end up defending the daughter on the same murder charge.
A good read by this first time author.

Very well written legal thriller, with one main character mentoring another on the fine points of law, and trial process. This may be tedious for some, but I loved it. A different approach.
