I get why this movie is liked. It has some nice visuals, plot holes from the 1991 animated movie are fixed, and to many a fan's delight-- Emma Watson is Belle. It's a recreation of the movie we're familiar with and love, and the familiarity is part of the charm.
But I don't like this movie. It's almost an exact recreation of the 1991 movie, and it's not even a good one at that.
The lighting is dark to amplify the gloomy mood, but dim lighting does not make a movie better. It only makes it difficult to see.
The two main leads lack the charm and personality of their animated predecessors. I was more invested in Lumiere and the Featherduster but only because Gugu Mbatha-Raw's performance was endearing.
The leads aren't trained singers, which wouldn't be a problem if this wasn't a musical romantic-fantasy. But it is, and it is. It's telling when the minor characters have better singing abilities than the leads when it should be an even field.

And this version of Beauty and the Beast has already been adapted as a stage musical. Do we really need another adaptation of this exact story?

If you want to see a different interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, I would suggest the one on hoopla made in 2016. Or watch the series starring Ron Perlman. It's different but at least it's not a retread of the same story by the same film company.

Walt Disney first applied the art of filmmaking to fantasy fairy tale in the year 1937 ... Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. that is 80 years ago and the experience shows. only Disney could have made a movie like this version of Beauty and the Beast

I thought it was lovely. Disney continues its run of fairy tales brought to life. Well done!

Love this movie. It is very well acted. It also relates to many girls now a day.

A very good re-imagining of the classic tale. Acting was splendid and singing was satisfactory—the only weird thing was that a lot of the actors had British accents… in France 🤔

Thought I'd end 2017 viewing with one of my favourite classic tales. I loved the Disney cartoon version and this latest retelling of the story was utterly, utterly enchanting for this big kid!!

such a good movie and how you most look on the inside and not the outside:) I cried I little when all the things turn back to normal, but it is a good movie and you should get it!

This movie is lovely! It is a visually appealing movie and a wonderful job by cast and crew recapturing and bringing to life the story of Beauty and the Beast as we know it. It was better than I thought. The acting was really good. The actor, Luke Evans who plays Gaston did a wonderful job! Very entertaining! Right after I watched this movie, I wanted to watch it again. I would definitely own a copy of this for my movie collection and I highly recommend to watch this with family or on your own even if you're an adult.
