Lucky Strike is an unusual novel in that action is almost immediate. It's about an accountant who testifies at a trial and has to go into witness protection from murderous gang members. He settles in a small town only to find that maintaining a low profile in a small town is very hard, if not harder than in a large city. He becomes embroiled in town disputes and intrigues despite his efforts to avoid them and the harmful publicity. A murder occurs and then his profile is all the more harder to maintain. He believes himself being tracked by mafioso but later they're revealed to be harmless individuals and ultimately another twist occurs when his handler reveals that he wasn't supposed to receive witness protection and that it happened due to a mistake! He then has the choice to keep his new life and cover or go back to a less satisfying/connected life...
