A police procedural. A Japanese police procedural. A Japanese police procedural with the main character a woman detective. [When this was first written, the late 1990s, Japanese media had made a heroine out of the first Japanese woman to receive her private pilot's license, so a woman detective was a big deal!] Although not a fan of police procedurals, this one was smartly paced and plotted, with deft interweaving of the main characters' private lives. Nicely done.
