The next best thing to a bar tour of Winnipeg.

Just because it's weird doesn't make it good, but it is weird.

Weird you want: weird you get. And it is a kind of artistry made almost to resemble a strange memory of a world which almost did exist.
The story of beer baroness with a past love affair which left her legless, but a powerful woman none-the-less. In Canada she watches as prohibition and dark times swallow peoples lives. She decides that a world competition for the sadest song will lead people to reach for her brew.
A cast of superbly eccentric characters add to the strange sense that we are seeing a silent film world come alive. Is it science fiction? Perhaps. Camp? Yes. Does it fit together well? Indeed it does. Time to board the Canadian street car to Guy Maddin's once upon a time that might have, but never happened.

This is a 2003 Canadian film directed by Guy Maddin.
It looks like as if this movie was really filmed in a style that imitates late 1920s and early 1930s cinema.
You see grainy black-and-white photography and slightly out-of-sync sound and expressionist art design.
A few scenes are filmed in colour so that this movie imitates early two-strip Technicolor.
Unfortunately, however, the story doesn't interest me at all.
It makes me so tired of monotonous and old-fashioned scenes that I quit half way through.
