A crazy but well done enjoyable movie - rather french. Be ready for the unusual. Love Charlotte Gainsburg

The animation in this movie is extra-ordinary. It is a pleasure to see movies that are made using cloth and dreams and animated machines. Not that I have any kind of issue with CGI--I feel that it too has its place in the evolution of cinema.
Having said that, I have to say that I find the subject matter and the script very bizarre and it seemed to work. I loved the ending.
It is also a comment on illusion and madness and separating the illusions from reality. That was sad also.
When I try to look at it as a series of neutral events then I have a better time of it. It is a very fine line though.

It's an interesting movie, but different. If you like Gael García Bernal and Charlotte Gainsbourg it's worth to see. But be prepeared! It's not just comedy or just romantic movie.
Somebody just doesn't want to live in real life. Or we don't want to change the reality?....

"The Science of Sleep (2006)
Stephane (Gael Garcia Bernal), an aspiring artist, returns home after the death of his father. Dealing with his grief, mundane job, and burgeoning attraction to his neighbour (Charlotte Gainsbourg), Stephane also suffers from the inability to distinguish between his sleeping and waking life. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michael Gondry creates another visually witty and technically ingenious film that explores the instability of desire, relationships, and consciousness itself. Lori Walter will facilitate the discussion after the film."

Second, or even third, viewing. Amusing, kinky, tongue-in-cheek escapades of a young man (Gael Garcia Bernal) science-fiction and fantasy dominate. The interpersonal interactions are largely comical, successfully so. I rather like the film but think 2 (or even 3) viewings ought to be enough. . . But, who knows?!

“I don’t have a boyfriend. And you have a serious problem of distorting reality. You could sleep with the entire planet and still feel rejected.”
