This forbidden love story made me cry. Love is so hard to find and even harder to keep.

Brokeback Mountain is not a great love story. It is also way too long at 2 hours and 14 minutes.

This cinematic masterpiece was robbed of a best picture Oscar the year it came out. It is an uncommon love story between two masculine ranch/rodeo hands that unfolds atop a beautiful mountain, Brokeback Mountain, and inside a small two-person tent during a seasonal sheep herding gig in an otherwise bleak, cruel and violent landscape.

"A classic" doesn't even come close to describing Brokeback Mountain. Words don't even come to my mouth when I think about writing about this film. What has become to be one of my all time favorite films, is one of the most romantic stories that I have seen.

The story of two ranch hands working together over a summer herding sheep on Brokeback mountain becomes a story of friendship, forbidden love, and tragedy. Fall in love with them and fall in love with Brokeback mountain.

This movie was more about 2 people learning about themselves and letting themselves love and be loved. The place and time of the incidents are unfortunate considering how unaccepting society was (is) in that setting. They broke the norms they were raised to believe for just a moment and were miserable otherwise when separated. Beautiful scenery and acting was spot on. Gay, straight, bi, thai...we're still all individuals and entitled to happiness.

As a straight male, i was not interested in watching this "so-called gay" movie but my interest in Ledger, Gyllenhaal and Ang Lee plus curiousity of the Alberta landscape made me overcome my reluctance.
I was happily surprised how enjoyable this movie is. No surprise that A Lee did an amazing directing job with the great screen play. The acting was great. The scenery is amazing. (There is more straight sex (and more graphic) than gay sex.)

Good movie which happens to be about a couple of gay cowboys who have a decades long relationship while attempting to live normal lives in their own peculiar ways. Naturally life has some lessons for each of them. If you're not in the same mental prison as the previous commenter you might enjoy it. Even if you're straight like me.

A beautiful and heartfelt film about what happens when two men discover love in an era that won't allow them to embrace and openly express it.

The acting is uniformly excellent, particularly the late Heath Ledger as the tormented Ennis. A special mention goes to the wonderful Michelle Williams (Ledger's then-partner and mother of his daughter) as Ennis's lonely wife Alma, who discovers something about her husband for which nothing in her hardscrabble young life had prepared her.

Director Ang Lee deservedly won the Oscar for best director; a pity the film did not win for best picture as well.

This is the movie where mainstream America learned that a gay couple loved one another just like a straight couple. Ang Lee won the Oscar for best director. One way Lee convinced me of his great directing abilities is that Ledger and Gyllenhaal acted neither gay nor straight in the film. Furthermore, I now have no more evidence whether either actor is straight or gay in real life. Ang Lee took his money from this film and then made the NC-17 Mandarin movie Lust where a straight lover finds that love can be painful (and deadly) for oneself and one's political compatriots. In 2013, the French film, Blue is the Warmest Color, nudged the mainstream world a step closer to realizing that gay people need and deserve love and companionship just like straight people. I find it laughable that some viewers feel that gay love is more "carnal and lascivious" than straight love.

A moving, subtle story, but it could've used more gay sex. You know, to piss off conservatives and Christians.

[ Ennis sets Jack "straight" about what happened between them.]

Ennis Del Mar: It's a one shot thing we got going on here.

Jack Twist: It's nobody's business but ours.

Ennis: You know I ain't queer.

Jack: Me neither.
