Characters: 8/10
Plot: 8/10
Writing: 8/10
Audio: 8/10
There was a great deal of dramatic irony, with the reader knowing more than the characters, so the grand reveal at the end about the nature of Ember wasn’t necessarily a surprise to the reader (at least it wasn’t to me--maybe it would be to a younger reader). The setting and world-building was fascinating.
The narration was pretty good; sometimes the narrator added some inflections or character quirks that I think influenced my view of the characters in ways I wouldn’t have thought of just reading. The toughest part about the audiobook was the lack of one particular visual component. I actually wanted to check out the book just so I could get a look at this puzzle that they were trying to solve, because it was so hard to understand audibly.

AUDIO VERSION REVIEW. Book aside, I found this narrator terribly annoying. Her impersonations of children are whiny and her adults are all stuffy and obnoxious. It really detracted from my ability to enjoy the book. I found myself thinking, "I wonder if I'd like these characters better if their voices weren't so irritating?"
