Thelma Ritter steals this show!

VERY GOOD 1959 love, sex, romance Doris Day/Martin Melcher (her husband/director), Rock Hudson movie. A bit slower to draw me in than Doris/Melcher's earlier 50's movies, but it did. Does reflect the emerging into 1960's role of women as workers and more than just homemakers/moms, etc.
Some fun musical numbers, including the whack 'Ya, Ya, Roly Poly.
Always enjoy Melcher's supporting role characters. This time it's Thelma Ritter as drunken housekeeper Alma - and TV's Johnny Yuma the Rebel Nick Adams has a minor role.

What was supposed to be funny is offensive (i.e., a forced kissing session in a car that now reads like an attempted assault, among other actions). Knowing Rock Hudson's now uncloseted history makes his lothario act implausible. Sexist comments by characters and the 'humor' of drunken behavior doesn't fly anymore. Wouldn't recommend other than as a study of the era.

Yep. And even though Screwball Comedy had long been pronounced "dead" at the end of the 1940s, "Pillow Talk" from 1959 turned out to be one of the most successful films of that decade, proving just how starved movie-audiences were for pure escapist fluff such as this.

Featuring some pretty snappy dialogue, energetic performances, lush photography, and high production values, "Pillow Talk" is certainly an all-round fun and enjoyable Romantic/Comedy motion picture.

An interior decorator (Doris Day) shares both a telephone party line and a mutual dislike with a womanizing songwriter (Rock Hudson). Even though the two have never met fate and a few white lies eventually land them in each other's arms. Pretty adult humour for 1959 (including some ironic gay innuendo), great technicolor New York settings and it's all as corny as it sounds. Fun!

fun. frothy. great clothes. great glimpses of what the new york nighclub scene was like, visually and musically. take the movie as the lighthearted offering it was...you won't be disappointed!

Great chemistry between the two! A fun romantic comedy "à la '50s". Enjoyable!

This is a fun movie, but I don't think romantic storylines will ever make sense to me.
