Miles Davis was far too prolific to be well represented by compilations but this one, in spite of the fact that it's length was restricted by the need to fit on a single vinyl record, works a lot better than most. It helps a lot that all the selections are from his acoustic period giving the album a coherency that more sprawling compilations lack. Other than the inclusion of a track from the hopelessly languid 'Round About Midnight and the exclusion of far superior albums like Miles Smiles and Milestones, there's not too much to quibble about as far as track selection goes. It's a good primer but not too many people will want to stick to just this (nor should they!).
