No Direction Home is a suitable documentary regarding a specific time in Bob Dylan's career from 1961 to 1966. Director Martin Scorsese does a great job of pooling press conference and live concert footage together to create a dynamic narrative. I feel his directing style is put to better use with his 1978 film, The Last Waltz, about The Band's final concert in 1976. (However, if you are looking for a real inside look into that time period for Dylan, D. A. Pennebaker's Dont Look Back is the ultimate winner in my book!) With No Direction Home, you will not only have serious empathy for Bob Dylan's mindset, but seek out every album from that time period or so was the case for me. Enjoy!

No mention of Dylan's heavy drug use, his supposed motorcycle accident, nor his many wives and girlfriends. A monosyllabic and utterly walled off interview with Dylan, chopped into 30 second installations and sprinkled here and there throughout. I've no prior knowledge of the man - his music never appealed to me - but he doesn't come across as a very nice guy, or interested in the well being of others, at all.

What a great documentary about such a great legend. I can't imagine any Bob Dylan fans not enjoying this. I would have liked to hear and see even more of Bob being interviewed, but this DVD is really good. Bob truly is an entity all on his own.

A must for Dylan fans. Lots of new material, very well put together by no other than Martin Scorsese.
