One of the world's first science fiction stories about time travel, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court is a slapstick comedy with serious social commentary. It was first published in 1889 where the hero of the story, Yankee and mechanic, Hank Morgan travels back to the time of King Arthur's court where he conducts a series of eccentric antics including organizing a baseball game with knights dressed in armour. Morgan also starts up the first tabloid entitled The Camelot Weekly Hosannah. Full of the stuff of grand myth, comedy, heroes and villains, Twain uses this entertaining story as a forum to criticize social mores, the church and state, and as an opportunity to champion women's suffrage, and labour union organization. In this adaptation of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Neil Munro decided to lighten the ending slightly and allow for more of a challenge and rebirth.
