Lois Hole books are one fo the best references to use for gardening in the Edmonton area, since all her experience is from this region! She had a wealth of information, all learned by trial and error, long before growing our own food was the next big trend. I love perennials for my yard, and I have gotten many ideas from these books through the years -- I have all of them, and refer to them every single spring. Some of the specific hybrids she refers to are no longer on the market, but the general plants are still sold (ie Wave petunia, in a variety of colours)
