Publisher Anno: Now it's summertime, and eleven-year-old Lydia is dancing at the bus stop, waiting for big sister Batty to get home from college. This is a very important dance and a very important wait because the two youngest sisters are about to arrive home to find out that the Penderwicks will all be returning to Arundel this summer, the place where it all began. And better still is the occasion: a good old-fashioned, homemade-by-Penderwicks wedding.

If there are kids in your life who haven't discovered the Penderwicks yet, there couldn't be a better time to introduce them, because this is the fifth and final book. And it is lovely -- familiar characters are revisited, old themes are touched on in clever ways, and the entire book feels like a fitting close to what may well be my favorite kids' series this decade. Is it my absolute favorite of the five books? Perhaps not, but I found that it didn't really matter; this series has always felt greater than the sum of its parts, and each book is strengthened by the ones that have come before it. If you want to read about family and love and friendship and growing up and sisters and the sense of endless possibility that exists when you're a kid on a sunny summer afternoon -- read this book. Read the four that preceded it. And feel lucky that books like this exist in the world, and that we got five of them.
