A few reviewers say great things. One even called it "spellbinding." This person is a lying sack of crap. Yes, it is about 4 hours long, and so might seem a tedious engagement. Well, Lawrence of Arabia was about 4 hours long. Siberiande, a Russian epic, also very long. Both of these films I found very stimulating and massively enjoyable. This thing, Happy Hour, is sadly just as boring as it might seem to be. Truthfully, I only watched the first two hours. Well, I waded, slogged through. Fine acting, high production quality. But absolutely ZIP of an engaging story line. No Dynamic arc at all. Nothing to say. No point. A waste. Now, some slick hipster is bound to say, "But you weren't patient enough to get to the substantive message in the third hour!" No, I wasn't. And many great films have a long set-up arc. 2 hours is too much of my wasted time, and the characters, while cute and charming... well, even cute and charming gets damn tired after two hours of NOTHING ELSE.

[At 5 hours, this is excellent aid to brush up on one's command of Japanese.]
Profound? Powerful affirmation?
Noooooottttt . . .
This was almost such an embarrassment to rate!
When men cheat on their spouses, they are dastardly swine. When women cheat, they are experiencing an emotional awakening?!
Puhlease . . . .

It's ridiculously long, would be more watchable if it's condensed to less than 2 hrs.

If this epic five hour film ended with the first disc (at the 3 1/2 hour point), it would have made quite a poignant film. Unfortunately, it dissolves into a mess of soap opera tropes in the last quarter.

A bit "epic" at 5-hour run-time. Visually unremarkable but emotionally resonant. Imagine the Dardenne brothers making The Makioka Sisters. Here, the 4 women are not sisters but are bonded by friendship and familial ties. Check out the visually lush and emotionally resonant Makioka Sisters DVD for comparison. Tanizaki Junichiro's book is a classic (original title Snow Flakes); as usual, screen adaptation lacked a certain je ne sais quoi...

Today in America the latest false narrative from our PuppetMedia to fill the airtime is that women are all poor, helpless lambs and pristine victims - - incapable of any wrongdoing!
Remember when Bernie Madoff was placed under house arrest during his trial for gargantuan thievery? [Wasn't he a former SEC chairman, BTW?]
His family feigned ignorance, yet shortly thereafter his wife was also placed under house arrest after she attempted to illegally move their court-frozen, ill-gotten gains offshore!
Remember back in the 1980s, when one of the last vestiges of Real News, the Phil Donohue Show, featured the actual story on the failed hostile takeover attempt by an inferior corporation, Bendix, on a much superior corporation, Martin Marietta [today called Lockheed Martin, and I'm being objective here, I have never cared for the number one corporate arms dealer]; the two involved, John Agee and Mary Cunningham, who were cheating on their respective spouses while joyously wreaking havoc? And, no, Mary Cunningham was NO helpless victim!
[Sadly, the last two vestiges of Real News, Phil Donohue's show and Jesse Ventura's show, were both cancelled by the PuppetMedia during the Bush administration - - and to this very minute the fake newsies of the PuppetMedia refuse to print the real story on Bush's fabricated military record {never qualified as an officer, nor as a pilot, yet was fraudulently carried on the ANG payroll as both!}] and, no, Amy Goodman's show and Thom Hartman's show are nothing more than fake news for the NeoBourgoiesie.
