Such a cruel battle... I loved how cinematic the writing style is, you can imagine all the scenes as if it's a movie. I also appreciated how each character is given a personality and reasoning without bogging down the book with unnecessary…

make no mistake—takami has the gifts. battle royale is a masterpiece. it's based on the premise of an ordinary 9th grade japanese class being sent to an island and forced into a violent game of ‘last man standing’—something straight out of…

A gripping read. I picked it up because I enjoyed Hunger Games and had read reports that Hunger Games was a "rip off" of Battle Royale. It's not. Despite the obvious similarity in premise, the books are very very different and both very…

One of my most favorite books of all time. The story is set in a fictional japan that has a program that makes naughty kids go on a island to fight and kill each other! Shuya Nanahara and Noriko Nagakawa has to fight their way with their…

AMAZING! And this is NOT a rip off of hunger games because this was written BEFORE hunger games. The movie is great and I am a real fan of it. Although its bloody but its a real human teenage drama involving teens and their struggles…

The main reason I read this book was of the 'Hunger Games Copy' reviews. I think it has a good idea, but I felt none of the characters had much heart. They didn't have too much reaction when a friend dies, and they looked at classmates as…

Great book!! Could not put it down. It really challenges the ethics of the characters and the reader when your faced with the choice of killing your friends in order to survive. So many great characters met a gruesome end.

This was like a whole new experience for me. It is definitely a must read, I'm pretty sure that there is no way I'm gonna be forgetting what I read any time soon!

Wow, what a read! Even if you've seen the movie and know how it ends, nits well worth reading, giving you a far more in experts look at the characters and plot. Only downside is the constant "he likes her, she likes him" plot (seriously…

I couldn't finish it. The language barrier and subsequent translation made for some solid pacing issues, and I had a difficult time accepting the complacency of the kids (which is probably due to cultural differences). I picked this up…

This was a really, really, REALLY good book. Unlike Hunger Games, you got to learn each and every victim in The Program more. Sure it's a long book, but it's hard to put it down once you read it. I read this in two days! However, be…

Some say this is the original "The Hunger games" I say this is just A wicked Japanese blood bath that has the same traditions as the "The Hunger games" but is in no way near the same as "The Hunger games". I have to admit, you can't be too…

So violent. This is the real Hunger Games. It will be a classic someday. HG will be forgotten and this will finally be discovered and read by many. Full of violence and treachery makes this a thought provoking read.

First of all, this came out before The Hunger Games so I guess you can say Hunger Games is the Americanized, less violent version of Battle Royale. Second, I found this book rather disturbing but it really gets you thinking, long after you…

extremely intense, fast-paced thriller; seen as a precursor to the hunger games, and is known as the modern version of Lord of the Flies. I couldn't put this book down once I started it; I really loved how the author was able to weave the…
