Ren MacCormack moves from Boston to the small town of Bomont, where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out. Bomont's councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore responded by invoking ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizes the town, and falls in love with the minister's troubled daughter, Ariel.

This film has what has to be the funniest unintentional (?) social commentary ever. Towards the end of the film, the badgirl lead has an argument with her badboy boyfriend. He grabs her, she hits him, he throws her to the ground. She gets up, starts destroying his truck with a crowbar. He punches her to the ground. Next scene, her distraught father is furious that she has been a "victim" of violence but before he can leave to exact his revenge, he gets into an argument with his badgirl daughter and... HE HITS HER, TOO. We have a scene where he expresses his contrition but, for the remainder of the film, the badgirl becomes a good girl. miraculously transformed. Otherwise, the film is well-intentioned and makes some nice statements about politics and religion but offers solutions that would only work in a town the size of a stamp.

This movie was much much racier than the original. Quite a bit of swearing and a lot of girls in skimpy outfits doing "dirty dancing". There is one scene that gets quite steamy, but there is no nudity, or actual sex scenes. The movie begins with a violent shock also. I would say that this is a PG13 for sure. The original movie was MUCH better.

Stellar remake. I wanted to hate this movie, but ended up liking it more than I thought possible. Terrific balance of updated material and music, exact rendition of scenes from the original and homage to the original. I didn't like the overuse of Country music, but it didn't detract too much from my enjoyment of the film. The main character's "Boston" accent was hard to handle as well. Seriously, if you loved the original, give this a chance. If you haven't, it would still interest you if you like dance-centric teen angst(ish) flicks.

I find it interesting how many have indicated this was a horrible remake.....really??....I've seen worse ones than this. To be honest this one wasn't bad (I too prefer the originally one) they did copy a lot from the 1st which likely added to the feeling of some that it was a horrible remake. In terms of the "sex and cussing" hate to break it to you, but the 1st had that as well and some more nudity (the boys locker room shower scene) than this one. Yes this one was more suggestive in terms of the dancing but nothing the teens of today haven't seen in prime time TV. In terms of the "acting"....let's be honest folks...the acting in the 1st one wasn't Oscar contention either....there were some that you could tell were just starting out in the acting world, just like a number of these ones in this version.. In terms of what I did like about this version was how some of the scenes played out in terms of who said what lines and where they were said. For example Ariel going to ask her Dad to put the corsage on that he bought, but her mom told her not to fuss cause he would just deny it...and the two of them end up dancing (swaying actually) instead of the original being between the Preacher and his wife in the cornfield in the original. Items like that were refreshing. BUT if for nothing else, it's worth the see just to check out the young actor who plays, "Willard". This guy stole every scene he was in. He was quirky, funny, charming....and his performance does put a smile on your face. Like I said at the beginning I prefer the original, but this one was an OK remake.

I didn't even get halfway through the movie. Horrible. The original was way better. What a way to ruin a classic '80s movie

Probably one of the worst remakes I have ever seen! That is 2 hours of my life I will never get back. Most of it, they completely copied from the original, except for a few differences. They added sex and cussing, like they thought that would make it better. And the acting wasn't nearly as good either. I love the original and have seen it probably 20 times. I wish I would have just rewatched the original again instead of watching this remake. Don't waste your time on this, just watch the original.

Fair - Footloose (2012) 113 min. The film is almost a frame by frame update of the original 1984 picture with Kevin Bacon. The scene in which the main character takes out his frustrations in dance in an abandoned building is still hokey today as it was back in 1984. Mildly entertaining film helped by good music.
